June 2018 update: While it was a painful, often quite annoying process, after a month Kin was finally able to work with the underwriter to restore coverage. Once I got in front of the right people, Kin was very responsive / accurate in their communications, and we ultimately got everything resolved. I obviously can't consider this a 5 star experience, but as of now everything is back to normal, at the price initially quoted, with no other pending issues. Phew! May 2018 update: How can you go from 5 stars to 1 in four months? Well 1 star is suggested for an “unacceptable experience” and that’s where I am with Kin. Long story short, their poor communication and administration has resulted in my insurance coverage being dropped. Kin failed to correctly upload an inspection report to my policy (after a total mess / just barely avoiding an earlier cancellation due to almost not having an inspector come in time in the first place), which triggered the underwriter dropping me. Now I’m wasting time each day trying to get coverage back. The Kin help has been abysmal (I have emails from various people all saying different things - it’s resolved, then it’s not, etc.) - and no support from anyone senior there. This is a big deal. Their intentions are good, but they have proven to be very amateurish in their capabilities and awful in their communication and attention to detail. I think it’s safe to say admin mistakes - that they have yet to correct - that result in lost coverage is an epic fail. Notice how my tune has changed; here’s my original review from early 2018: I came across Kin in a somewhat random way, but I love to leverage tech / keep things digital (and simple!) as much as possible, and Kin was great in both regards. The intake process was super smooth / quick, and the agent follow-up was fast (and not intrusive). Everything was handled in a timely and accurate manner, all via email and e-signatures. For context, it took about a week to secure both HOI and flood insurance for a (first) new home purchase, and my guess is that it would have been quicker if I had gone through the process before. Our agent Ian was awesome - super helpful and responsive. Now that I found them, I'd definitely recommend Kin to family / friends.
